Legal requirements for participating in triathlons in Italy
To participate in triathlons in Italy, athletes have to meet certain criteria. In this article, we explain what licences and documents are required.
You can participate in a triathlon in Italy if:
- You are federated in your national triathlon federation and have a licence issued by that federation. Not only that, but you will have to send a copy of that licence to the event organiser and also present it at the event expo or race pack collection.
In case you are not federated in your triathlon association and have no licence you can still participate in triathlons in Italy if you present a medical certificate attesting the ability to practice competitive triathlon (in compliance with Italian regulations, D.M. 18/02/1982).
A purchase of a day FITRI membership will also be required.
A medical certificate can be obtained in Italy in specific medical centres or at your home country, as long as it meets the Italian regulations, D.M. 18/02/1982. This means that to obtain such certificate you have to pass the exams including: blood pressure, height, weight, urine exams, heart exam EKG under stress, etc.
The certificate has to be in English or Italian.
A medical certificate is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.
IMPORTANT
Without a valid licence or medical certificate and a day licence, you will not be allowed to participate, and your registration fee will not be refunded.
